"Give You Nothing" - Bad Religion #morningmusic

Quite often, I'll wake up with a song in my head. Not just the vibe or idea of a song, but very specific parts. Sometimes it's a melodic guitar hook, or it's a particular lyric.

I've decided to write about these when they happen. Maybe they're not as random as I think they are.

Here's the first one:
"Give You Nothing" - Bad Religion

This is one of my favorites, although I'm not sure if I've heard it recently.

I woke up with the following lyric and band accompaniment clearly in my head:

"Respectable, despicable, it seems all the same
Now we realize that we have nothing to say." - (full lyrics)

Get Your Super 8, 1986, Black Flag Fix [punk, DIY]

I'm not even done watching this yet and I'm in the mood to share. Thanks to my friend Anthony for sharing this. This is intense and surreal. Things were so different then and for these guys. Yes Virginia, the guy with the tattoos and the long hair is Henry Rollins. Enjoy. - jdm *

You have to understand that the bass guitar is the party instrument.

This is an excellent quote from one of the most important dudes of punk, KEITH MORRIS. You see, Keith was one of the founding members of Black Flag, and the longtime frontman of the Circle Jerks. You might say, he has a way with words.

"You have to understand that the bass guitar is the party instrument. It only has four strings. If you see a bass player playing five strings, take your shoe off and throw it at him. The bass guitar only having four strings, that just means less to worry about and you can become more excited, you can become more animated, you can jump around, you can bust out your Gene Simmons moves, all that kind of shit. "

Do yourself a favor and read the rest of the interview [
here]. He talks about a new band that he has started called OFF!

I need my coffee... [monday morning - punk edition]

We all have those days where you NEED coffee. Everyday, I pretty much WANT coffee. I can definitely relate to the lyrics in both of these songs.

Here we have Lagwagon and The Descendents. My favorite line from the Lagwagon tune is "Here I come to save the day on legal speed (The American way)." My favorite lyric from the Descendents song is "I Don't Need No Booze Or Drugs I Just Chug-A-Lug-O My Coffee Mug."

Please watch, listen, & enjoy these punk songs about our favorite beverage. :-) - jdm

What is your favorite beverage song? I can think of a few others.
- Six Pack Girls by NOFX
- Beer Bong by NOFX

...oops those are more punk songs. Help me out!
